Severance was born in Houston, Texas. She attended Westbury High School and, at age 15, started modeling to make money for college. Although she hoped to become a veterinarian, she could not afford the cost of tuition. After appearing in the “Miss Houston” beauty contest, she was discovered by Alan Martin, a local photographer in Houston who introduced her to John Casablancas. Casablancas signed her up with the Elite modeling agency and sent her on assignment to Paris. During this time she met her future husband, model Eric Milan.

During her time in Paris, she posed for Sportswear International, Vogue Paris, and others. Upon her return to the United States, Severance became one of America’s top models, filming over 40 commercials, and earning $7,500 per day. Severance was also on the covers of the January 1990 and November 1992 issues of Playboy magazine, both featuring her in a nude pictorial.

"One of the true pioneers in the adult-film business, Debi Diamond grew up in the San Fernando Valley, drag-racing motorcycles. She came from an old Hollywood family, and was pushed into acting at an early age but never really liked it. On her 18th birthday (1983) she made her first X-rated film and became an instant star. She became friends with famed producer Robert Evans and worked for a time as his personal assistant. She was spotted by photographer Helmut Newton, who was so impressed with her lean blonde look that he featured her in several of his photography books in the early 1990s.

The zenith of her porn career was in the early 1990s, when she worked virtually nonstop and her performances garnered just about every award the industry gave out, and she was inducted into the XRCO Performers' Hall of Fame. She left the industry suddenly in 1995, but came back in 2010 and worked for for Playboy Radio SiriusXM. She also started a fem-dom company, Debi Diamond Films, and is a producer as well."
